It’s a Marvelous Night to Cleanse Your Crystals

One of the most often asked questions I receive is: “How do I cleanse my crystals?”  As a crystal healer, I have a decent collection of crystals and minerals I use on clients weekly. I make it a point to cleanse them between each session. I also have quite a few I just enjoy for their beauty and energy.

An important part of utilizing crystals is knowing how to cleanse them. I’m not referring to removing dirt or dust – this is about clearing the energy that is either absorbed, covering or drained and getting them ready to be fully charged again.

Crystals more than mere pretties

Most people don’t realize that crystals have a vibration and as such, they can release energy and also absorb it. They pick up energies from emotions, thoughts, other people, places and other objects. So whether you use them regularly for yourself or clients or perhaps just purchased them, cleansing them is important.

If you search, “how to cleanse a crystal”, you’ll find numerous results. From everything I’ve studied, I recommend NOT using: water or the sun – even if it might be perfectly safe for certain stones. Some stones will become weakened by water or even dissolve completely in it. The sun might cause a stone to fade in color.

There are so many options for cleansing crystals: smudging with incense or palo santo, energy healing such as Reiki or Qigong, singing bowls, other crystals such as citrine, kyanite, selenite, carnelian and quartz clusters. Other options are utilizing a copper pyramid (I’m fascinated with the DIY versions I’ve seen on Pinterest), burying them in dirt (makes them dirty but re-charges them) or my favorite – moonlight.

What I do

So while I am constantly cleansing my stones during the work-week with Reiki or other crystals, I like to do a monthly full overhaul.

Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
‘Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling T
o the sound of the breezes that blow
And I’m trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush

And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush ~ Van Morrison

Every month, I take all of my crystals and place them on various trays and lay them out by a window or even outside on my porch. I know where the moonlight will reach them best. I do this at the full moon. There are three days of fabulous energy surrounding the full moon, the day before, the day of and the day immediately after. Regardless of clear or overcast skies, the moon’s energies will work to clear your stones. It’s free and as long as you have space where your pieces will remain dry, it works very well. My additional caution is to make sure no one can walk away with your treasures. So on a full moon there is more to do than simply dance – it’s a marvelous night to cleanse your crystals!
