Forgiveness – Sets You Free

Forgiveness - Sets You Free

“It’s the hardest thing to give away

And the last thing on your mind today

It always goes to those who don’t deserve

It’s the opposite of how you feel

When they pain they caused is just too real

Takes everything you have to say the word

Forgiveness, forgiveness”

- Songwriters: Matthew West / Matthew Joseph West

I’m always amazed at how a simple song can often translate the morse code like beat tapping out via my heart. My brain is always full of ideas, dreams, opinions and challenges -  ultimately - distractions. My heart always knows the way. Some may call it intuition, I call it “heart sense”.

One would think if they took a logical look through metaphysical eyes that the intuition would be more closely connected to our higher power since the Crown chakra is so close to the Third Eye where intuition found. I firmly believe my connection to my higher power is truly based in my heart. It is where I can “sense” direction and direct connection to God.

(Brief moment to explain my choice on the use of the word God. My connection to God has always been as innate to me as breathing. When I ran out of books to read, I’d turn to the Bible. When as an only child I had no one to talk to, I talked to God. When I felt said, I turned to God. I always knew God was “with” me.

I’ve never had difficulty believing in God. In fact, if anything I’ve never believed in the Devil. Somehow at even a young age I thought people were the evil not some unknown being. I also never believed God was judgemental, punishing or demanding of me anything that I didn’t agree with. I didn’t need a miracle to know God or believe in God. I already knew God was always with me.

I don’t expect other people to hold this belief or any for that matter. I honor choice, free will. Please feel free to change out the word God for ‘Higher Power’ or ‘Universe’ or ‘Spirit’ should you feel so compelled.

And back to our regularly scheduled blog…)

Through working with chakras I learned that my “heart sense” wasn’t connected to my Heart chakra - it was actually my Thymus Chakra (more on this below). It has been tingling lately - get it, like “spidey sense”. Years ago, I noticed with the work I do a topic, a word or a phrase might be repeated over the course of a week or even one day. It has become even more noticeable now that I work with so many doing coaching and energy work - often focusing on spiritual development and soul work. When something I’m supposed to pay attention to comes up - my heart sense begins to tingle. Forgiveness has been a theme of late.

One client, who has come to me for chakra work and coaching, talked about how she didn’t know how to forgive herself for choices she’d made when she was younger. It doesn’t really matter what those choices were, just that right now it was creating a block for her. In fact, she is actually dealing with physical manifestations of this issue.  She was basically beating herself up for what happened in the past. Not only couldn’t she forget it, she couldn’t forgive.

Another coaching client discussed her relationship with a friend. This client had a close relationship with this friend where she had become a trusted confidant and loyal support to this friend. Something happened at one point where the friend accused her of something. To my client it was a direct affront to her integrity and a blatant lack of trust she thought she had built with her friend. The friend had not asked her what happened or sought out her point of view. When everything went down, it was discovered that the client was not at fault, it was a miscommunication. However, damage was done. She forgave her friend for what happened but could never truly forget.

“Forgive but don’t forget” is a phrase people use often. The problem with this is that sometimes not forgetting can hold you back from finding peace and even potentially affect your health. Depending on your own personal reasons, never forgetting what someone has done to you can be an obstacle. Sometimes holding on to that issue is a way of utilizing it for a life lesson. Other times, it is maliciously used to attack, condemn or hold judgment upon someone or something. Sometimes forgetting the hurt can help you move on and heal. I do know that it is difficult to simply forget. Yet, denial, simply wishing a situation would go away or sweeping it under a rug doesn’t solve anything.

Acknowledging it, accepting it for what it is and also accepting that now that it has happened - you will not be able to change it - will help in allowing forgiveness to take place. Acceptance is one of the foundations of mindfulness. Non-judgment is another. Too often we judge others and even ourselves for various shortcomings or failure to meet expectations. Perhaps if we flick that snarky devil off the shoulder we could allow the voice of reason and love to rise to a level we could actually hear. Then perhaps we can let go and forgive.

The other mindfulness component to forgiveness is letting go. While it is easy to say, “Let Go”, it is not easy to accomplish. In our work at Magical SOULutions, we focus on clearing the chakras to release clogged energy that might be making it more difficult for us to move through and beyond challenges, pain or obstacles in our path. The chakra that deals with forgiveness is not the Heart chakra. This chakra is one that is rarely discussed or even thought of - the Thymus Chakra.

Many people are aware or familiar with the seven main chakras - Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and the Crown. There are other ones that hold energy and shift it allowing energy to flow (or not if clogged) throughout our bodies. The Thymus or High Heart is often overlooked. Along with other chakras, this one is associated with compassion for ourselves, release of fear and forgiveness. This chakra is associated with the thymus gland, one of the earliest glands that develops while in the womb. This gland is related to the immune system and has within it the patterning for your DNA. It also holds your karmic design for this lifetime, including past life information.

It is located in the upper chest, just above and to the right of the heart chakra... between the heart and throat chakras. If you rub this point, you may notice it feels slightly sore. It is the point used by EFT practitioners... and they may call it the 'sore point'. The thymus chakra resonates to the colors aqua, turquoise, green/pink. Some crystals for working with the thymus are green dioptase, green kyanite, rhodonite, morganite, aquamarine, emerald, turquoise, chrysoprase, rose quartz, mangano calcite, variscite, and my personal fave - Larimar!  In some areas it is called, “the seat of the soul”. Much of the work we do at Magical SOULutions is about working at the soul level.

This description by John O’Neill describes the Thymus Chakra well: “it is the link between the emotions of the heart and the reason of language. It is what makes you inhale a breath before you speak, since this is where the intent behind the words you are about to speak actually starts forming. So, let’s say that your heart feels a certain way about something that it would like to voice. The energy shoots up to the Throat chakra but passes through the Thymic chakra first, giving it a heads up to start getting prepared to speak by drawing a breath - or by stopping the breath to prevent you from speaking. This is why you don't always say what's on the tip of your tongue. This is also why emotions can wreak havoc with your health, as the Thymic chakra can be bombarded by emotions to the point of fatigue.’

Forgiveness and self-compassion go hand-in-hand. You need compassion for self to forgive and in order to strengthen self-compassion, you must forgive. Affirmations are great for working with clogged energy of any sort and teaching our subconscious a different path. Here are a couple focused on forgiveness:

I allow forgiveness to flow to understanding and I embrace compassion and kindness for all.

I am forgiving, loving, gentle and kind and am safe in the knowledge that life loves me.

There are tons of energetically healing practices to choose from when it comes to activating the Thymus Chakra. Listening to music or experiencing sound therapy, methods combining movement, breath and meditation, like yoga, qigong or tai chi, stimulate the flow of energy in general, but can also be focused on specific chakras such as the Thymus. Energetic healing work like Reiki, Crystal Healing, Chakra Balancing in order to dissolve blockages and recharge depleted energy resources are also beneficial.

It’ll clear the bitterness away

It can even set a prisoner free

There is no end to what its power can do

So let it go and be amazed by what you see through eyes of grace

The prisoner that it really frees is you

When we hold on to something that happened to us in the past (energies, hurts, past actions etc) or “live” in it, we are not allowing forgiveness to take place. All we are doing is preventing ourselves from truly enjoying and really living in the present moment. We allow ourselves to be chained energetically by past events, situations, and people. We end up dragging them, like prisoners did with balls and chains connected to their ankles only we do it in our energy system. This threatens our wellbeing and vitality. It energetically drains us and often creates repetitive subconscious programs (which can be rewritten through hypnosis) that continually drain us - keeping us from recognizing the blessings in each moment.

Once you have mastered the action of forgiveness, you will find the true meaning of being at peace with life in general. In addition, your health will benefit from the cleared energy and you will have developed a more mindful state of being.

Forgiveness will never be easy. But, “the prisoner it really frees is you.
